Since the Nineteen Sixties, the Western world has become quite different from what is was before. Until then we’d thought of ourselves as a Christian civilisation – but to what extent was that ever really true? The present age gets characterised as Postmodern. It’s certainly Post-Christendom. Whether it’s as secularised as it’s assumed to be is debated. As regards the West’s Church, a Second Reformation seems to be in progress. Anyway, what do such terms mean? If you’re interested to know more, there’s material here that may help you.
Although an ordained pastor, the primary call on my life is as a ‘watchman’ – observing everything; on the basis of that, an intercessor – praying into what I see; and finally, building on both these, an analyst-researcher – looking into what I discover. Much of my time is spent examining the roots and development of Western civilisation through evangelical Christian eyes. This is, as you can imagine, an enormous field of research. My undergraduate time was spent studying first engineering, and later, theology and religious studies. The theology gave me history at degree level – but otherwise I’m not a trained historian. An engineering background has helped me deal with large fields of data. What I’ve completed to date of an e-book I’m writing on Western civilisation, you can read or download here for free.
Another of my interests is strategic reconciliation. You’ll find here a paper I produced a while ago on Identificational Repentance. The topic is a controversial one apparently, but I’ve long been convinced both of its theological validity and its practical usefulness.
