Almost Beyond Belief. Europe and the West after Christendom is an e-book - a work in progress, and intended to remain so. It's my initial attempt to write an account of:- how the Western world came by the Christian gospel
- how what would become European civilisation was formed by it that gospel a considerable degree
- how Europeans came to disagree about what Christianity was, and fight over this
- how the violence and repression associated with that turned increasing numbers of Europeans away from Christianity
- how Europeans, as they explored and conquered the world, took their rival forms of Christianity to the nations - even while Christian belief was dissolving away back at home
- and how, by now, not only Europe, but much of the rest of the world that became Westernised, has left Christianity behind.
You're welcome to download the text of the book, without cost. Periodically, after I've completed it, I intend to revise or rewrite the chapters as I see fit. Hopefully, if you aren't familiar with the ground I cover, you'll find it illuminating and helpful. Currently I'm working on a shorter, simpler, book for conventional publication, covering the same general area (working title: THROWN AWAY. Christianity's lost influence and authority in the West.).
